Robotics has been a big influence on my life. My freshman year in high school I was a founding member of the Missoula Robtics Team. After high school I got my bachelors of science in Mechincal Engineering. I'm now a electrical engineer in training (EIT) and design building power and lighting systems at a architectural engineering firm called CTA.
Assistant Coach / Programming Mentor
I am a computer science and engineering teacher at Sentinel High School and this is my fourth year serving as the Assistant Advisor for the Missoula Robotics Team. I earned my BS Computer Science, BA Mathematics, MS Computer Science, and MBA degrees from the University of Montana. I was the co-founder of Missoula-based software company Orbital Shift and served as the VP-Technology and Lead Software Developer for four years. When I’m not working, I am an active musician in the Missoula Symphony and Helena Symphony as a horn player, and the Missoula Community Band and Missoula Community Big Band as a trumpet player.
Our son introduced me to FIRST as a freshman when he joined MRT 3216. This is my 5th year as a mentor and I love seeing the students grow because of their experiences with FIRST. I have a mechanical engineering degree from Oregon State University, and have worked in and for manufacturing facilities for more than 30 years.
I grew up on a farm in Central Montana and I'm the youngest of 13 kids. By growing up on a farm I learned a lot about making due with what you had on hand. When the closest hardware store is 70 miles away you get creative on fixing items. This passion for fixing and creating things lead me to getting a bachelors of science in Electrical Engineering. I have been a robotics mentor for the team since it was founded in 2009.
